What is Capoeira

Capoeira is a Brazilian Art Form, which combines elements of dance, play and ritualistic fighting. The game (called ‘jogo’) is played using a series of kicks (‘golpes’) which the player can mix as he wishes. The opponent is supposed to escape those kicks and attack with other golpes in return. For that reason the game is composed by a series of attack and defense maneuvers (Brazilian define capoeira as a ‘jogo de defesa e ataque’) without a pre-define choreography but that goes on in completely free-stiling. The players can use even projections and acrobatic movements in order to demonstrate their ability.
All the game is done under a music contest: the music – rigorously performed live – commands the rhythm of the game and all the people around could sing and clap hands.
Because of its aim, capoeira is intended as a very good physical activity. It acts positively on the muscle tone as well as on the lungs. It’s one of the most burning activities of the aerobic area and at the same time acts on the stretching level of the body.
But capoeira acts even on the spirit. It enhances the reflex of the mind and increases the knowledge of the self-body. Because of the generated vigor, the whole body gets healthier. In addiction, makes easy relationship and person-to-person interactions working positively on the behavior, turning it happier.
